How to Not Lose Your Mommy Mind During Summer Break

It’s the last day of school for your kids – the beginning of a fun and happening summer vacation. And although you might have planned a lot about how you’d entertain your kids and spend quality time with them, there may come times when you’d just feel overwhelmed by it all.

If you ever feel like you want the summer break to just end and be over with, remember it’s not unusual to feel emotionally drained and you’re not a bad mother for wishing that. Stay calm and get some help!

Tips for a Successful Summer Break

Summer is a magical time, but it can be prickly too, especially when you’re out of ideas on how to entertain your kids who’re complaining ‘but mommy, I’m bored’ endlessly.

Here are some tips you might need this summer:

  1. Plan Adventure and Relaxation Times

That’s right, summer is supposed to be adventurous, but everyone needs some time for relaxation as well.

Plan the days that you’d spend doing certain activities or visiting certain places, and the days when you and the kids would simply relax at home.

In case they get bored, don’t resort to more screentime as a solution. Instead, fill up a jar with 50 pieces of paper, each having an activity written over it and ask your kid to take a paper and try out that fun thing it says!

  1. Divide the Chores

When your kids are home, there would definitely be more mess. But, instead of getting tired cleaning it all day long, use this as an opportunity to teach your kids discipline and teamwork.

You can also plan a dusting contest or have a ‘clean-up party’ at home where you all clean and have fun with your kids’ favorite music playing in the background!

  1. Always Prepare for Meltdowns

Lastly, know that summer can be exhausting, so always be prepared for emotional meltdowns. In such cases, stay calm and avoid shouting at your kids. Instead, calm your children by letting them do something they enjoy and have a ‘me-time’ meanwhile!

Don’t let summer-time chaos get to your head mommies!
